When a friend calls you up and says she has extra tickets to the New York City Wine and Food Festival's Taco's & Tequila event hosted by Bobby Flay and Tequila Avion, you go. Don't even think about turning up an opportunity like that.
The Mexican-inspired event took place in trendy SoHo on a crisp Friday evening. As we shuffled up the stairs and into the enormous space, the smell of cilantro, limes, spices, and tequila filled the air. We knew this was going to be good.
We circulated around the room grabbing margaritas, tequila cocktails, beer and wine in between bite-sized tacos of all sorts. The fillings ranged from the traditional beef and guacamole to cow tongue and ox tail. The major stand-outs were sweet and spicy braised short ribs from Philadelphia's Pub and Kitchen and the crispy duck tacos from NYC's Buddakan.
Aside from the food, it was pretty cool to see Food Network and Bravo's Top Chef stars being put to work right in front of us. We felt pretty fabulous just being in the same room as the likes of Robert Irving, Giada De Laurentiis, and Angelo Sosa.
The lower level was turned into a swanky casino and night club a la Borgata and was DJed by none other than Samantha Ronson. There were delicious little cake-pops served and the end of the night, we couldn't resist but to grab Anne Burrell (sorry Anne) for a not-so-quick picture.
We finished the night up with extra cocktails at a local bar on the Lower East Side.
As we hopped in a cab back to the apartment, we couldn't help but think, "Someday we'll be working a booth at the New York City Wine and Food Festival. It could happen."
