Located on E. 76th St. between First and York on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, this authentic British Pub boasts a lovely roster of dishes from across the pond. Cuisines like bangers and mash, steak and kidney pie, fish and chips, and even bubble and squeak. The menu at Jones Woods Foundry might be small, but the experience is mighty.
Many pubs throughout this city claim “authenticity,” but this one is the real deal. If you’re hankerin’ for some London Pride or a scotch egg, come to JWF.
And speaking of scotch eggs, these were the best we’ve ever had! At $9 an egg, they’re a bit on the pricey side- thus the 4 out of 5 star rating- but damn, are they delicious. Lets start with the egg. Perfectly cooked. The texture was divine. The flavor of the sausage was earthy and out-of this world. Most likely, they came from the famed Meyers of Keswick, as that’s where they get their bangers. Finally: the breading. Crispy and mouth-watering. Did we mention this was the best scotch egg we’ve ever encountered? ‘Cause it was.
Another stand-out was dessert. We had a milk chocolate and sea salt tart with chantilly cream and a “banoffee” aka banana-toffee pie. Both were exquisite. A little sweet and a little salty goes a long way in our book!
Aside from the meal, its a great little nook to enjoy a beverage of the alcoholic variety. It’s like stepping out of Manhattan and into London. British memorabilia graces the walls and even the cushions, and accents from the waitstaff complete the atmosphere. In addition, they have an adorable outside seating area, reminiscent of that of London’s L’Oranger. Though more casual, the placement of the patio cornered between several city buildings is undeniably similar.
So next time your friends suggest pub food and a pint, head on over to Jones Woods Foundry. You won’t be disappointed.
