Brooklyn born Henry and Adalis are all about the food and it definitely shows. They're Cali/Tex-Mex inspired taqueria, La Gringa, is a quick-service dream for foodies craving big flavors at an affordable price.
Phil and I recently grabbed lunch (c/o) at their newest location in the West Village. This small, neighborhood gem is decked out in original murals of sugar-skulls and rustic tables made by the owners themselves.
We leapt right into the food- ordering a chicken burrito, a fish taco, and some earth-shattering pulled pork nachos- flambéed to perfection. What sets La Gringa apart from other Tex-Mex alternatives is their dedication to quality ingredients and bold flavors. If you're up for it, they add fried plantains to each menu item, so each bite combines savory, sweet, and spicy.
Seriously, these nachos were epic: crunchy tortilla chips topped with black beans, sweet fried plantains, tender pulled pork, fresh guacamole, cheese, and homemade creamy chipotle sauce.
Equally delicious were the tacos and burritos. Most notably unique was the fish taco. Grilled tilapia instead of breaded and fried, it was much lighter and therefore more refreshing than most fish tacos.
As Brooklyn natives, Henry and Adalis of La Gringa are committed to their community. They offer high school discounts and host neighborhood events like Summer Socials in on the patio- fully equipped with margarita machines- and Couple's Nights.
In fact, they are so community-oriented that they are hosting a public event this Saturday pledging 100 Holiday Gifts for local orphans. "Winter Wonderland" will be held at their Brooklyn location from 1-4pm. See the flyer below for details:
